Lori A. Vaughn, OTD, OTR/L
|
Lori Vaughn, OTD, OTR/L, is an assistant professor of occupational therapy and the academic fieldwork coordinator at Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Lori has experience as a school-based therapist, serving as the primary therapist for children with complex disabilities, particularly cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorders. Lori earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy at Bay Path College, her post-professional Master of Science degree at Boston University, and recently completed her post-professional doctor of occupational therapy at Boston University. Her primary area of interest in occupational therapy practice and research is in pediatrics, particularly in the realm of severe disabilities including autism and cerebral palsy as well as sensory processing disorders, play and its impact on development, and the role of culture in development. Lori is also interested in the development of cultural competence in fieldwork and practice. Her doctoral research involved the development of cultural competence training modules for occupational therapy students and educators.
Lori is a member of several professional organizations including the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy, the New England Occupational Therapy Education Council, and the Massachusetts Teacher's Association. She was a contributing author in the OT and OTA Exam Review Manual, 2nd Edition, edited by Karen Sladyk and authored a chapter on play and leisure assessment in Occupational Therapy Essentials for Clinical Competency (at press) edited by Karen Jacobs, Karen Sladyk, and Nancy. Lori has been a frequent presenter and co-presenter at the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy annual conferences. Lori has also been an invited guest panelist and lecturer on the topics of distance learning and fieldwork education.
